He is specialized in foreign-related Chinese business law and has provided legal assistance to many foreign enterprises in investment projects and mergers and acquisitions projects (in such sectors as industry, telecommunications, insurance, real estate, trade and retail business), while acting as a permanent legal adviser for several other companies.

Thomas CHEN also has extensive experience in litigation practice, having successfully defended several clients in international trade disputes (arbitration) and intellectual property rights infringement cases.

From his experience both in France and in European law firms’ China offices, Thomas CHEN has also gained the expertise to advise and defend Chinese enterprises’ interests, whether they are willing to invest in Europe or are involved in anti-dumping cases.

Main fields of practice: international trade, foreign investments, company mergers and acquisitions, tax law, intellectual property rights, commercial litigation, international arbitration.

Experience

Thomas CHEN worked as off-counsel for two European law firms established in Beijing before becoming a partner of FINEFIELDS Associates, and eventually joined DACHENG in 2007.

Education

Thomas CHEN graduated from the French Department of Beijing Languages Institute in 1991 and became a licensed attorney in 1994. In 1998 he was awarded a scholarship by the French Foreign Ministry to undertake legal research in France, where he got a Ph.D. in 2002.
